Algodoneros of Guasave are officially back in the 2019-2020 season of the Mexican Pacific League. They won’t be returning alone, but with a new team: Sultanes of Monterrey.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador made the announcement this Sunday at the ‘Francisco Carranza Limón’ Stadium in Guasave, where thousands of fans celebrated the news that they will have baseball again in the LMP, now under the command of businessman Alfredo Harp meanwhile a new group of investors arrive.

Harp owns the Red Devils and Warriors of Oaxaca in the Mexican Baseball League, as well as a minority partner of the San Diego Padres.

The surprise was when López Obrador announced that the tenth team will be Sultanes of Monterrey with the owner of Multimedios in charge, Francisco González, who was also present at the event.

Monterrey will become the first city in the history of Mexico to have baseball all year round in the LMB and LMP.

López Obrador was accompanied in the act by the Presidents of the LMP and LMB, Omar Canizales and Javier Salinas -respectively-, as well as by the Director of the National Sports Commission, Ana Guevara; Alfredo Harp, Joaquín Vega (Cañeros of Los Mochis), Édgar González (Adrián’s brother) and Érick Arellano, one of the brothers who own the Lions of Yucatán in the LMB.

The last time that Algodoneros of Guasave played in the LMP was in the 2013-14 edition before moving to Jalisco.
